Travel: Macau – China Photo Diary Day 3

Monday, August 20, 2018

Day 3 started in central Macau. I woke up, took a shower, packed my stuff and headed out to the Ruins of St. Paul, which were close by. After a small breakfast (which consisted of fresh mango juice and a pastel de nata) I climbed up the fortress at Monte do Forte. It was so hot that I had to rest a bit up there, before heading to the city.

Ruins of St. Paul

Monte do Forte

St. Lawrence Church

Senado Square & St. Dominic's Church

Senado Square looked like a painting with its black and quite tiles on the ground and the blue sky. I had some very yummy Portuguese lunch (a mushroom soup as a starter, salad with cod for the main menu and some ice tea) at OMUN near Senado, for which I paid about 12 Hong Kong Dollar? And I got a piece of caramel cake for free!

Casa do Mandarim & A-Ma Temple

The Mandarin's House and A-Ma Temple were the last stops before I headed back to Hong Kong. I was super tired, the humidity and heat had killed my stamina and I started coughing very badly. I remember that I got bit by mosquitos at A-Ma Temple and those scars needed months to fade!

Casino Hotel Lisboa

While waiting for my ferry back to Hong Kong I made a stop at Hotel Lisboa. In comparison to the other casino hotels on Taipa Island I rather found it tacky and its staff very unfriendly.

That concludes my trip to Macau

I have to admit that Macau really is something. I went there without any expectations and my mind was simply blown. You really cannot imagine the enormous sizes of the hotels, its casinos, the malls and decorations. It's more than huge. Thousands of Chinese tourists running around, fresh food everywhere, the crazy heat and sun. That trip was definitely a once in a lifetime-journey and I already miss those delicious pastéis de nata. But fortunately I'll be in Portugal in a few days, so lucking forward to it!
